Haven't dined here in a long time. That was my mistake. Holy cow, it was amazing. So much better than I remember. Went with a small red, no mozzarella with chicken and red peppers. WOW! Wife and kids loved their pizzas too. Salad was solid, love the pears, passed on the blue cheese. Family is now torn between Bar and Pepe's. Both are winners but I may favor Bar because of the thin crust. Can't wait to go back.

BAR pizza seems to be a lot of people's favorites around here, so I ventured out today to taste it for myself! When you enter, there will be someone to greet you and ask you what you want. Since I wanted takeout, I was directed to walk straight past the stairs to the back and order at the counter. The staff were really friendly and told me to check back with them in 30 minutes. Luckily it was ready by then! I ordered a Small Red Pie with Mozzarella, with sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, meatball, and white clam. The crust was so thin, chewy, and not over-baked to the point of crunchiness at all! Dining area was very lively on a Saturday evening. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. When I left, there was a huge line that went past the restaurant front--a testament to how popular the place is.

AMAZING PIZZA! There are couple of favorite/classic pizza places in CT. We tried this on a whim and it was beyond amazing. We tried all the house classics and definitely try the Clam Casino and BBQ Brisket!! Depending on the time, you might have to wait for a bit. We were there on a Wednesday night and had to wait for 40 minutes before we got the table - but it was worth the wait!

Best pizza in Connecticut. The mashed potato pizza always a fan favorite, but all pizzas have been good, prices seem fair given how large the pizzas are. Also with a large drink list, we've had fun staying for the club atmosphere as well. Never any issue with service , though it can get quite busy in the weekends.

We put our names on the waitlist, and went to a bar nearby to wait. It took about 45 minutes on a Saturday night to seat a table for 2. But let me just say, it was worth the wait. This place serves the most incredible pizza. The ambiance is casual brewery with spectacular pies. We ordered the mashed potato pie (because why not) and the regular cheese pie. At first, we thought, who puts mashed potato on a pizza? A genius. THAT'S WHO. Kudos to the chef. And the regular cheese pie was a dream. What's even more gluttonous is that my partner and I stacked the mashed potato pie slice over a regular slice and our minds were blown. It's hard to say if this is better than Modern or Pepe's. But I can say this is some of the best pizza I've eaten outside of Italy.

Took my husband to BAR for the first time recently. We had to get the classic mashed potato pizza and some of their brews. The pizza is usually solid. Definitely the thinnest of the New Haven style and cut in rectangle slices. They have a great salad and they do it well. There is usually a wait, so be prepared. We were sat in the back room and were served quickly once we were sat. The room was big and the servers were nice. It's definitely a spot you need to hit!

I recently had the pleasure of taking a mini tour around New Haven with a friend, testing a variety of the finest apizza establishments around the city. This was the second stop on our quest. I had looked around and heard from my friend that the mashed potato and bacon was the pièce de resistance here. So we ventured out in the rainy weather to try it. Staff was kind and prompt, and made sure we were taken care of. This pie is probably some of the best I've tasted in my life, and having lived in NY/NJ, I've had some goooodd slices in my life. The salt and umami + the cheese combo is just A plus. And the crust is perfectly charred and thin. I paired it with the BAR lager which was the perfect beer to go with the pizza. Compliments to the individual who came up with this. Additionally, the interior is stunning - large windows, moody lighting with lots of wooden accents, fermentation vessels and a lovely painting above the bar on the other room. I'm so sad I've slept on New Haven pizza this long. I will surely be back.

If you don't frequently visit New Haven, you probably only hit your one to three favorite pizza places when you're there. I have friends who spend a lot of time in New Haven, and their pizza roster is much deeper. Some of my most knowledgeable friends keep Bar in their plans for pizza (and beer). I've been to Bar, but before last weekend, it's probably been 20 years. My friends finally got in my ear about it. I walked in around 2 pm on a Saturday and the place was packed. I heard they had a large private party in the back. And the seating in the room to the left when you walk in was basically full. Bar had a very lively, fun and cool, large downtown bar atmosphere. I ordered a pizza to go and was told 30 to 40 minutes. I enjoyed a satisfying "You Juicin'" Hazy DIPA while I waited. My medium bacon, onion and sundried tomato with mozzarella was good. I tried two long rectangular strips why the pizza was still hot. The crust is very thin and had some char, but less char than many of the classic New Haven pizzas. The crust didn't have a lot of chew, but it did a good job of supporting the toppings. Of the toppings, the sundried tomatoes stood out. They were sweet and tart, and had the texture I love. The bacon was in small crispy bits. The onions were chopped and perhaps sautéed in butter. Maybe not, but they had that vibe. The red sauce wasn't really noticeable. The pizza had less melty, stretchy cheese than I prefer, which is understandable when the crust is this thin. This is a pizza combination I frequently order at some of my favorite places. This version was good, but doesn't make top tier for me. Bar is perhaps most famous for its mashed potato pizza. I suspect the best way to enjoy Bar is there, with a group of friends sharing a couple of large pizzas like the mashed potato, and sipping a house made IPA. My experience was good, and perhaps would have been better if I wasn't just getting takeout. Four Stars
